PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!! 1. A tree is 3,212 years old. How can you express this age in scientific notation with the lowest level of precision? A. 3*10^3 B. 3.2*10^3 C. 3.21*10^3 D. 3.212*10^3 THANKS!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is A, but not entirely sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur right nice goin :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! Does anyone disagree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

::))) ur frree to close question ehehhe

OpenStudy (xhawaiiangirlx):

I think its B

OpenStudy (xhawaiiangirlx):

i mean D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur wrong try counting up

OpenStudy (xhawaiiangirlx):

First, we will put a decimal point at the end of number 3212. In order to write number 3212. in scientific notation we need to move the decimal point from its current location (black dot) to the new position (red dot). 3.212. So, we need to move decimal point 3 places to the right. This means that the power of 10 will be positive 3. Now we have that the Number part = 3.212 and Exponent part = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was considering both but don't know. I guess I'll go with A.

OpenStudy (xhawaiiangirlx):

In which i got 3.212⋅10^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

go on its your choice :D ill fann u sky

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! The only thing that confuses me is the "lowest level of precision"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What exactly does that mean? Would that mean the choice that is farthest from the actual answer, like A.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mmmm C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D would be the most precise answer, wouldn't it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah it would

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So A. would be the least precise answer of the four options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would it be D @sws_pvt

OpenStudy (xhawaiiangirlx):

Yes it would be D like i said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only thing that I don't understand is that it seems like D. is the most precise answer of the four, not the least.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@skysrv if you think about it, all of the numbers have to all ready be there. they aren't just appearing. All the numbers have to all ready be there before scientific notation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But at the end of all this, wouldn't it be the most precise answer though?

OpenStudy (xhawaiiangirlx):

THis will help you understand better First, we will put a decimal point at the end of number 3212.

Oh, okay, I think I understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just submitted it, the answer was A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But, thanks for your help! I better understand scientific notation, so thanks!
