OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help:) will medal

zepdrix (zepdrix):

wait wait wait wait wait....

zepdrix (zepdrix):

This guy found a movie theatre that charges 2.04 for a LARGE popcorn and a LARGE soda? There is absolutely no way...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahah super cheap

zepdrix (zepdrix):

like... at most places.. you can get a baby size popcorn for maybe 5 dollars.. it just doesn't make sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought the answer was $1.02 but I was wrong so dont really know how to do this

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Oh, yes I should stop joking around and help :) sorry reading it again

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\(\large\rm 1P+1D=2.04\) \(\large\rm 3P+2D=5.36\) So we have a system of 2 equations, yes? Where P is the price of a popcorn, and D is the price of a drink.

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

x+y=2,04 3x+2y=5,36 solve the system for x and y x mean large popcorn y mean large drink

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so should i solve both equations?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

how you solve a system of equation ?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Elimination would be option :) Unless you prefer substitution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry looking at somthing else oops

zepdrix (zepdrix):

With elimination, since you're trying to solve for P, the popcorn price, you would like to try and "cancel out" the D's from your equations. So we first need to try and make the number of D's match in both equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer $1.78?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

lol you just keep throwing out random guesses :P I think you're just giving us your multiple choice options XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ha nope i just did the math!

zepdrix (zepdrix):

oh :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and this wasnt a multiple choice question :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did 5.36/3p=1.78

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ok. Kathline - was our pleasure - yes @zepdrix ? so good luck bye and anytime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks..

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\(\large\rm 1P+1D=2.04\) \(\large\rm 3P+2D=5.36\) If we multiply the first equation by 2, \(\large\rm 2P+2D=4.08\) \(\large\rm 3P+2D=5.36\) Notice that now our D's match up! So let's subtract the first equation from the second one. 2D - 2D will leave us with no D's, which is what we want! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\(\large\rm 3P-2P=5.36-4.08\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so its not 1.78...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 1.28?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

yay good job \c:/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! can i just ask another question but attach it to here on the comments?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

you should open a new thread, im super busy D: I gotta keep moving sorryyyyy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay
