@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

From trigonometry we know tan (22 degrees) = x / 26

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I know that we have the adjacent (26) and the opposite sides (x) so we can find the tangent of 22 degrees. 1) tan(22) = 0.4 2) 26/x = 0.4 3) 26 = 0.4x 4) x = 65

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

did i make any mistakes @wolf1728

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Yes, x = 65 is incorrect.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

can you explain to me where i made the mistake?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i think i know how: i mixed up opp. and adj.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

You divided when you should have multiplied. I started with tan (22 degrees) = x / 26 .40403 = x / 26 x = 26*.40403 x=10.50478 You set it up as x= 26/.04043 x= 64.35 which it DOESN'T

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i got it! thanks!

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Okay u r welcome
