start by adding 2 on both sides.

I did that. I got both -5 and 6. But right answer is supposed to be -6 and 6. And I don't see how

|-4n|  = 24 

so, 
-4n = 24 or -4n = -24

n = -6 or n = +6

what did you do differently?

oh maybe you got -5 because you did 22 -2 ??

No it's fine. Thank you so much. And yeah, I did did 22-2. This makes so much sense now. You only o the absolute value.
