Help ! Will Fan + Medal

OpenStudy (xaze):

For the following dataset, describe in a sentence or two the transformation necessary to linearize the data. Be sure to convince me that you understand. X: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Y: 0.7, 1.3, 1.8, 2.1, 2.3

2 haaard!

OpenStudy (plasmataco):

sry, only in 8th grade

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Linear Regression Number of cases 5 ∑ X = 15 ∑ Y = 8.2 ∑ X^2 = 55 ∑ XY = 28.6 ∑ X ∑ Y = 28.6 b = ( ∑ XY - ∑X ∑Y / n ) / [∑ X^2 - (∑X)^2 / n] Numerator of b = (28.6) - (15)(8.2) / 5 = 4 Denominator of b = [55 - (15)^2 / 5] = 10 b = 4 / 10 Regression coefficient b = 0.4 Constant = 0.44 Equation : Y = 0.44+ 0.4 X y =0.44 + 0.4x gives the best fitting line: transform y by ynew = 0.44+ 0.4x and plot (x, ynew)

@KasaCiara, Sorry but this appears to be copied from Yahoo! Answers... I need really legitimate help and walked through step-by-step. Thanks for trying.

OpenStudy (missmeow):

This function is non-linear

OpenStudy (missmeow):

X: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Y: 0.7, 1.3, 1.8, 2.1, 2.3 In order for it to be linear, the rate of change, would have to the same for all of X, and all of Y. X is increasing by 1, where as Y is increasing at different rates, so its not linear. (For example: 2 would increase to 4, and 4 would increase to 6,etc. The rate of change would be 2, this is linear) I don't know how to solve this answer, but I hope this helps. Are you sure you have the Y values right?

OpenStudy (missmeow):

Does this help?

OpenStudy (xaze):

Yes, this helps a ton! Thanks for your hard work!

OpenStudy (missmeow):

No problem, glad to help!
