Relative dating is done by comparing the locations of the items being dated. If you look at a building, relative dating allows you to say that the first floor was built before the top floor. so here is one example

Would this be an example also? Sedimentary rocks are normally laid down in order, one on top of another. In a sequence, the oldest is at the bottom, the youngest is at the top. This is the principle of ‘superposition’.
