OpenStudy (shaleiah):
I got 591.6
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
What do I need to check?????
OpenStudy (shaleiah):
Did I solve the surface area, correctly?
OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
I might be able to help.
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
and you got 591.6

OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
Do I do one surface or the hole thang
OpenStudy (shaleiah):
We do the whole surface area.
OpenStudy (shaleiah):
@jdoe0001
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
yes...hmmm how did you get that area anyway?
OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
I gots 1,600?

Come to think of it yeah did you use a calculator @shaleiah
OpenStudy (shaleiah):
Yeah, my ti-84 plus.
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
is that what the teacher asked to do with it?
OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
Yes.
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
Did the teacher tell you to use the calculator???

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
for if that's the case, then all the credit belongs to the ti-84 pus
OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
...
OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
Y
OpenStudy (shaleiah):
\[6*\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }*18*10.4=\]
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
Cause if you are using a calculator then that's cheating

Is the proper formula I enter jdoe?
OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
Who cares. :D
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
\(\bf 6*\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }*18*10.4= \huge ?\) bacon powder? that is, what does that mean?
OpenStudy (igigighjkl):
Just kidding.
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
anyway.... let's start off
hmmm notice, you have a HEXAgonal prism
hexa = 6, six sides
so... notice, it has 6 rectangles, of 12x18
so get the area for those first

OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
I believe that's right
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
216?
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
ohhh hmm yes
that's one rectangular face
though notice, there are 6 of them, so add them up
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
Yes I believe that is correct??
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
Hmm

1296
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
Mhm
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
after you get those
get the area of the 2 regular hexagonal faces
keeping in mind that \(\bf \textit{area of a regular polygon}=\cfrac{1}{2}\cdot rns\qquad
\begin{cases}
r=apothem\\
n=\textit{number of sides}\\
s=\textit{length of each side}
\end{cases}\)
notice, those are 2 hexagonal faces
then sum those two up with the other 6
and that'd be the total surface area of the figure
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
the "apotem", is the distance, from one side, to the center of the regular polygon
in this case, the 10.4 distance
OpenStudy (hauntedwoodsgal):
Ok so are you good???
