his is info for the question: (I'll type in questions in chat) Discount Cards: $5.50 Saving books: $10 Concession passes: 3.50
(a) Dana and Katie each sold coupons for the fundraiser. Dana sold the same number of savings books and discount cards. Write an expression for the total amount of money she made from selling the savings books and the discount cards, using only the variable x. For this I got 10x+5.50x and 10*5.50+x*x (Correct me If i'm wrong) Now, the next question is what i'm confused about: an hour agoDelete (b) Katie sold the same number of discount cards as Dana did. However, she did not sell the same number of savings books. Katie sold the same number of savings books as she did concession passes. Write an expression for the total amount of money she made from selling the coupons using only the variables x and y, where x represents the same thing it does in Part (a). It'd be nice if anyone can help me, I know this looks like a lot, but if someone is good at math/word problems it might be easy
@alyssa_nicole
skullpartol, think you can help?
What does 10*5.50+x*x represent?
im sorry , im just as lost as you! ):
This expression: 10*5.50+x*x is not correct.
This expression: 10x+5.50x is correct :-) What does it represent?
oh, 10 (x means saving books/ discount cards) +5.50x right?
oh, I think I thought for the first one that it asked for two expressions
skullpatrol?
Yes, you are on the right track :-)
Ok, so what about the 2nd one? I thought noone was going to answer so I kind of made up something like, 5.50x+10y+2.50y
Looks good :D
sorry Openstudy wasn't responding
alright so there's another question: (c) Write a simplified expression showing how much money Katie and Dana made altogether from their sales. Should I just put 10x+5.50y+2.50y=10x+8y? Would that make sense?
Wait, your 2.50 should be 3.50, right?
No, I just found out it's 2.50 because on my other computer it was cut off, but since I switched to another and it turned out to be 2.50
Ok, so what about the 2nd one? I thought noone was going to answer so I kind of made up something like, 5.50x+10y+2.50y<---here 3.50y
^^^^
ok
So would my simplified expression make sense? Should I put that?
Nope, read what the question is asking for: (c) Write a simplified expression showing how much money Katie and Dana made altogether from their sales. how much money Katie and Dana made "altogether" from their sales. means: Katie's amount + Dana's amount = made altogether
Is Katie's amount 5.50x+10y+2.50y and...
yes
Dana: 5.50x+10x+2.50x ? I'm unsure about Dana
Dana: 5.50x+10x
Ah, ok. I'll try to solve it and show you my answer, this might take a minute
Okay, so is it 25.50x+8y?
That's not what I get? Show me the two expressions you added together.
wait I made a mistake hold on
Ok so 21x+12.50y?
Correct :D
Oh, yay!! Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day/night to help me!!
Thanks for asking :-)
bye! :D
