OpenStudy (ev12):

If a ball is thrown in the air with a velocity 48 ft/s, its height in feet t seconds later is given by y = 48t − 16t2. (a) Find the average velocity for the time period beginning when t = 2 and lasting (i) 0.5 second.

OpenStudy (fifciol):

\[\bar{v} = \frac{ \Delta y }{ \Delta t } = \frac{ y_{t+\Delta t} - y_t }{ \Delta t }\] where t = 2, and delta t = 0.5. Substitute those values in your height formula to get the values of y at those times, then plug them in the equation of average speed to get the answer
