Im gonna use D as an example. Think of it as stages of more. Stage one is 'The clouds look black to the east.
Stage two would be 'More black'.
Stage three would change the sentence all together, like:The clouds to the east look blackest.

So, My point is you can't have a two stages at the same time, like: The clouds look more blackest to the east.'
