Well since it give us a specific GIRLS to BOYS we would try to compare 10 to 8. The best way to learn how to get a ratio is to divide each factor by a common number.

Since both sides are an even number lets try to divide each side by 2 so
$$10\div2=?      $$ and 
$$8\div2=?    $$
that would give us 5 and 2. Which means the ratio would be 5:2 .
