operations with polynomials: x^-2*y over X4*y^-1

OpenStudy (photon336):

\[\frac{ x ^{-2} }{ x ^{4}y ^{-1} }\] this is what you wrote but we need to re-write this can you see why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is sort of like that only youre missing a y in the top of the fraction \[\frac{ x^-2y }{ x^4y^-1 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is like the fraction above the one i just wrote

OpenStudy (photon336):

well, you're actually dividing two polynomials so you need to subtract the exponents

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i just dont know how to solve it i know youre supposed to subtract the exponents i just dont know where should they be placed
