`Find one value of x for which f(x)=-1` step 1) draw a horizontal straight line through -1 on the y axis. Extend this line out as far as it can go in both direction step 2) mark the points where this horizontal line crosses the curve. In this case, it will cross at 2 points step 3) write down the coordinates of each point found in step 2 step 4) focus solely on the x coordinates of each point. The teacher only wants you to report one x coordinate, so you can pick either one.
