Look at the figure: Which pair of triangles is similar? Triangles PQR and PTS Triangles SRT and TRP Triangles PTR and PQR Triangles RTS and PQR

OpenStudy (weasel123):

the figure is not there

OpenStudy (word2):

OpenStudy (weasel123):

oh

OpenStudy (word2):

I think the answer is the third one actually

OpenStudy (word2):

am i wrong ?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Let me start by asking y ou which triangle is not a right triangle.

OpenStudy (word2):

PRT is not a right triangle

OpenStudy (word2):

wait , i think its option four because triangle RTS and PQR are both right triangles and look similar

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Tricky problem. Now I believe all three triangles are right triangles. So, the question boils down to "which pair of triangles are similar?"

OpenStudy (word2):

is it rts and pqr?

OpenStudy (word2):

that are similar

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Possibly you could make this easier for yourself if y ou would very carefully measure the lengths of the hypotenuses of the triangles you think are similar. Next, find the ratio of these lengths of hypotenuses. Next, determine whether the ratios of the remaining two sides are the same. If yes, the triangles are similar; if not, they are not similar. This problem would be easier were the diagrams larger.

OpenStudy (word2):

are you sure there isn't a faster way to do this?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

I can actually help with this

OpenStudy (word2):

please do.. i'm extremely confused

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

do you see what i put down and understand it?

OpenStudy (word2):

yes i understand , the measurement of each of the triangles are 45 degrees ?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

I think that they might all be similar. Because the 90 angle in PTS was bisected all of the triangles are 90-45-45 :)

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

also; because TRS was 90; and line PS has to equal 180 PRT has to equal 90

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

all right angles equal 190 when thier 3 angles are added together

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

180*

OpenStudy (word2):

i understand However , the problem states based on the answers that only two triangles are similar.

OpenStudy (word2):

there isn't an option that says that all three of the triangles are similar ..

OpenStudy (word2):

i'm extremely confused

OpenStudy (word2):

@Luigi0210

OpenStudy (word2):

@skullpatrol

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

thats extremely confusing considering that they are all similar

OpenStudy (word2):

i just ended up guessing , thanks anyways
