Trigonomatry Question

OpenStudy (ahsome):

Questions is in the pictures :)

Parth (parthkohli):

Hey @Ahsome, what do you think?

Parth (parthkohli):

I would say this question can be done without any knowledge of trigonometry using similarity of triangles.

OpenStudy (ahsome):

I thought similar triangles play a role, but I cant seem to find any way to solve. We are notigen \(h\), and I don't know how to get that value. We do need \(h\) right?

Parth (parthkohli):

But we can find \(h\) by using similar triangles, yeah. The small right triangle that is orange in colour has sides \(h\) and \(R-r\), and they correspond to \(H \) and \(R\) in the bigger triangle.\[\frac{h}{R-r}=\frac{H}R\]\[h = H \cdot \frac{R-r}{R}\]

Parth (parthkohli):

So your answer is simply\[V(r)=\frac{\pi r^2 H(R-r)}{R}\]

OpenStudy (ahsome):

Thank you so much! I completely forgot about how similar triangles work, you have been immensely helpful

Parth (parthkohli):

No problem =)
