The diagram shows the dimensions of a teepee. Find the volume of the building to the nearest cubic unit. Use 3.14 for pi. A. 1,780 ft3 b. 1,382 ft3 C. 21,363 ft3 D. 5,341 ft3
Find the area of the base.
how? that how lost i am =/
It's just a circle. Diameter is 20 ft. Radius is 10 ft. Area = \(\pi (10\;ft)^{2} = 100\pi\;ft^{2}\) Make sense?
will i know pi is 3.14
That is of no consequence. It's better just to keep it \(\pi\) until we need an approximation. Okay, if this were a right circular cylinder, we would just multiply by the height, 17 ft. since it is a cone (teepee), we get only 1/3 of that. Thus, \(100\pi\;ft^{2}\cdot 17\;ft\cdot\dfrac{1}{3}\), which is now ready for numerical approximation. What do you get? Really, you just have to know the formula for a Right Circular Cone, \(\dfrac{1}{3}\pi r^{2}h.\)
