Can someone help me understand sum or difference of two cubes?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Let a and b be two different numbers. For simplicity, let's also assume that they're both integer. "The cube of a" is expressed as a^3; "the cube of b" is expressed as b^3. Finding "the difference" is equivalent to subtracting one quantity from another. So, "the difference of two cubes" could be a^3 - b^3.
