OpenStudy (ilovepurple42043):

A historian is a person who studies and writes about the past and is regarded as an authority on it. However archaeology involves the study of human history through the recovery of artifacts left behind. By my simple understanding archaeology consists of more practical work to find old artifacts like tools, manuscripts etc and document the flow of history. By contrast, a historian has more theoretical knowledge by studying the various sources of history available. Hope this helps
