so the two pieces variables, the long piece is x and the short piece is y. Now x is 4 times y but when you add them together they equal 15. I would set this up as a system of equations like below$$x+y=15$$ $$x=4y$$
so plug in x in terms of y into the first equation so it becomes$$4y+y=15$$ you can then simply that into 5y=15 and solve for y through division. Now that you know what y is you can subtract that value from 15 and that is what x is.
