What technological improvements allowed Europeans to dominate Africa?

The Ottoman Empire and China were stagnating by the late 17th century and did not advance as quickly or forcefully as the Europeans did. This came to a head with the advent of the Industrial Revolution which effected Europe more then the Ottomans or Chinese and helped colonize Africa and Asia, and put the economic and military boot to China's gut.
