In some high altitude cities such as Denver, Colorado, snow sometimes disappears gradually without ever melting, what happens to it?

sounds like it must be sublimation, which is where something goes from solid to gas without becoming liquid in between. Dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide) does this unless under great pressure.
