OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

I need help writing a poem that is 10 lines and contains at least three poetic devices.

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Do you have anything so far?

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

@Adrianna.Gongora no I don't> I am not good at poetry at all

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

What subject do you want it to be?

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

I wanted it to be about the loss of a family member

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

I actually did a poem about a family member that died. He was my step dad who raised me since I was 1. May I know which family member it was and the type of relationship you had.

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

It was my aunt, and we were really close to each other. She helped raise my brothers and I when my dad was deployed

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Would you like to see my poem, I don't usually show people :) but I think it could help and then we can work on the poem together.

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

Yes please.

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Okay, give me a minute I have to go get it :)

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

Okay :)

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

sorry I was typing it

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Elegy For Scott When I had nightmares I came straight to you But the funny part was how I knew You were always in the kitchen You either gave me Oreo's Or your famous homemade Peanut Butter Cookies And off to bed I went It's surely hard not to cry When I think of you And I hear the word goodbye I think to myself it wasn't a fair fight When all the kids ditched me You were always there To comfort me And let me know you were there You are the worlds best dad as far As far as I can see And surely in my life It is you it will ever be No one can take you place No one can finish the race It was so shocking When we got the call You had four strokes And the doctor said No more or else You would sadly have to go I've been through a lot Thinking it was all my fault That you were gone And it hasn't been that long Mama always comforts me And reassures me that It was no ones fault That it's just the way of life On our way back to Cali Oh how you were so happy Laughing and singing the whole way With your sweet joyful self Who would have thought That this would be the outcome Oh how I hurt I felt so torn Grandma Dottie hurt me so She wouldn't let us go To see you get buried And let us say our goodbyes I never fully got closer And I know very well That's part of my anger And it makes me sad Oh but what I would do Just to hear you talking to me and all of us laughing to see you sneaking me candy Oh how mom would get so mad But we already knew she would Get over it and laugh about it later Especially now a day's Sometimes me and mom sit outside At the nighttime looking at the stars And think about all the memories we shared Sometimes we laugh and Sometimes we cry At the end of it all We know everything is alright You may not be here physically But you will forever be in my heart You will forever be in my mind And in my thoughts and memories I will hear your laugh through mine And remember your voice in my prayers I'll remember the way you look Through the memories of your character You were a sweet man Gentle at the heart and kind at thought You thought about your family first And then others and I will always Remember you and think of Bright thoughts when I think of you Let your spirit forever be with mom Cause she was troubled most of all

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

I did this in 8th grade that was two years ago I'm now a sophomore.

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

That's really good. I wish I could write poetry like that.

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Thank you. I'll be helping you with that. What kind of memories do you two have together.

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

Playing board games, going to the beach, Sledding in her backyard, huge christmas every time we went up, never going anywhere without food

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

lets start with the beach tell me some memories :)

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

Diggin a hole that was big enough to bury someone and leave just their head up, building sand castles, and boogie boarding

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

tell me a funny memory about boogie boarding :)

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

I face planted into the sand at the end of the wave, and she was right there to help me up

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

I have so many memories And they all come back to you From going to the beach and always having something to eat that's what I have so far I have to go but I will help you when I get back.

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

Okay that sounds good. Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

No problem I have to go with my mom to look at houses so when I get back i'll help some more try to come up with stuff even if your not sure it sounds good because it can help me. :) talk to you later

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Do you have anything so far?

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

@Mrs.Irwin

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

@Adrianna.Gongora I have so many memories And they all come back to you From going to the beach And always having something to eat LeeLee leaves a loving legacy She was like a social butterfly Pepsi with Lemon in on hand

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

I like it :) I think you need 3 more lines and then we have to find the 3 poetic devices :)

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Poetic devices are tools that a poet can use to create rhythm, enhance a poem's meaning, or intensify a mood or feeling. These devices help piece the poem together, much like a hammer and nails join planks of wood together.

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

@Adrianna.Gongora I am taking the ACT soon so I will be on later today

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

Okay :) hope you pass it.

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

@Adrianna.Gongora I am ready when you are :)

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

What do you think of this? @Adrianna.Gongora I have so many memories And they all come back to you From going to the beach And always having something to eat LeeLee leaves a loving legacy She was like a social butterfly Pepsi with Lemon in on hand I thought I heard her voice today Then laugh her hearty laugh. And then I heard the angel say, “The spirit never dies.”

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

I like it :) @Mrs.Irwin

OpenStudy (mrs.irwin):

@Adrianna.Gongora this is what I ended with I have so many happy and loving memories And they all come back to you and me From going to the super sandy beach in our shining red Jeep And always having something sweet to eat LeeLee leaves a loving legacy She was like a social butterfly Pepsi with Lemon in on hand I thought I heard her voice today Then laugh her hearty laugh. And then I heard the angel say, “The spirit never dies.” I thought that I would miss her And never find my way. And then I heard the angel say,- “She’s with you every day.

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):

This is awesome :) I knew you could do it!

OpenStudy (adrianna.gongora):
