A car traveled 93 miles in 1 1/2 hour. If the car continues at the same rate, how many miles will it travel in 3 1/2 hour? *

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

Ok so it's easier if you find it's speed per hour. Can you do that? Like 1.5 hour = 93 miles 1 hour =?? miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

ok so let's see how to get it. From 1.5 to 1hour, you would do ( 1.5/1.5)*1 am I right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

so whenever you have an '=' sign, what ever you do to one side you must do to the other. In this case, it's 1.5hour = 93 miles (1.5/1.5)*1 hour= (93/1.5)*1 miles (you're doing the same thing to both sides 1 hour = ? miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

how did you get 30

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

it's wrong btw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no is it 62

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

YUP

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

so using this same concept right, you now have 1 hour = 62 miles So 3.5hours =?? miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

217

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

:) YUP
