What happens to sales in multicellular organisms as they continue to divide an increase in size

Cells die over time and the process of division replaces them. A process called apoptosis -programmed cell death- causes a cell to die if there are certain indications that there has been DNA damage or other problems. Cancer is a result of the failure of apoptosis to occur (among other things).
