How did American settlers prompt U.S. territory acquisition in some cases?

In Texas, Americans moved there with the permission of the Mexican government. They promised to obey all Mexican laws. But then, Mexico got a dictator. The Americans and tejanos decided to declare independence. They did, had a little war and became the Republic of Texas. That lasted a few years before they realized they were going broke. So the Texans asked the US to annex them and let them be a state. Hawaii was sorta like that only uglier. I can tell you more about that if you want.

Ok. I think I have it so America wasn't happy about Mexico changing the type of government they had.

America, the country, didn't take a position on it. The Americans who moved to Mexico and promised to follow Mexican law had a problem with it. They weren't living in the US any more. They were living in Mexico. Those settlers in Mexico, rebelled and eventually became part of the US>
