OpenStudy (rootbeer003):

help me explain?

OpenStudy (rootbeer003):

OpenStudy (rootbeer003):

i think it means simplify but i dont really get "Assume the denominator does not equal zero "

OpenStudy (danjs):

a zero denominator is undefined , not good that fraction can be split into 3 individual ones, all the top terms divided by that bottom one

OpenStudy (danjs):

then you can use your exponent rules to clean each of em up

OpenStudy (danjs):

the first of them goes down to just 6x, \[\large \frac{ 12*x^2*y }{ 2*x*y } = 6*x^{2 - 1}*y^0 = 6*x\]

OpenStudy (rootbeer003):

mk

OpenStudy (danjs):

do you get all that

OpenStudy (rootbeer003):

yes

OpenStudy (danjs):

k, do the same for the other 2 terms

OpenStudy (rootbeer003):

ok so im at this, 6x^2y-3xy+2x^2

OpenStudy (danjs):

not sure what you did, i finished the first term, to 6x, the others are \[\large 6x - 3 + \frac{ 2x }{ y }\]

OpenStudy (danjs):

exponent property rules. like 4 to remember, you got it
