What technologies are astronomers using to look for life on other planets? Why?

I don't know all of them, but I DO know that SETI uses massive satellites that send radio waves through space as well as listen for them from all over space. Another thing that astronomers can do is look at how close planets are to their stars and they are usually able to determine if they are in the "sweet spot" where they believe life as we know it could survive. I wish I could help more!
