Is the function F(x)=1/x a rational function? PLEASE HELP!

OpenStudy (oaktree):

Yes, it is! A rational function is just any function that can be expressed as a polynomial divided by a polynomial. 1 is a polynomial (just a really simple one) and so is x (even though it's also very simple). Rational functions include things of the form \[f(x)=\frac{ x^3-4x^2+3x+6 }{ x^5-4x^2+1 }\]Or they can be simple things like \[f(x)=x\]Just think about whether both the numerator or the denominator are polynomials, and you can answer the question very easily.
