OpenStudy (shannonytuiot):

Given the table below for selected values of f(x), use 6 right rectangles to estimate the value of integral (from 1-10) f(x)dx x 1 3 4 6 7 9 10 f(x) 4 8 6 10 10 12 16

OpenStudy (mathmale):

This is ESTIMATION. You could use the Trapezoidal Rule, or Simpson's Rule. Were you told to use one or the other?

OpenStudy (danjs):

the definite integral would tell you the exact area under the function... they want you to total 6 rectangles, and there are 6 possible between those points on the table width is the diff in x value, height is the value of f(x)

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Shannon: Please specify the method you are expected to use here. If you have no specific instructions or preference, then I'd suggest you use the Trapezoidal Rule to estimate the area under the curve y=f(x). Are you familiar with the Trap. Rule?
