So this is a pretty cool website that helped me a lot when I was studying. http://www.historyisfun.org/jamestown-settlement/history-jamestown/ If you take a look it says, " Many of the original colonists were upper-class Englishmen, and the colony lacked sufficient laborers and skilled farmers." The crazy thing was, as much as the original settlers tried to establish trade with the Indians, resentment began to grow around the language barrier between the settlers and the Indians later causing war to break out. Lastly, the term Englishmen above is kind of the same as saying gentlemen. The fact that they were upper class means that they weren't likely to be people who had to do any kind of rough labor as jobs like that wouldn't be suited for men of such class. I won't give you the answer but I think given this information you can draw your own conclusions. Please go to that website and skim through it. It may help draw some connections that will help you understand the time a little better. Don't forget to hit the Best Response button and fan! God Bless ~SnuggieLad
