What types of memory would you find in computers manufactured in the past 10 years? What reasons would you have for upgrading memory?

DDR2, DDR3., and most recently DDR4 Unless you by memory are referring to like storage space (which would be wrong).
The reason for upgrading the RAM (random access memory) is that the new modules of RAM are faster.
