well, bear in mind that math, is just notations of observed patterns in phenomena
so
minus * minus = positive
is just a pattern found phenomena
that, an object with a propery deemed as negative from a point of view
as a factor of other, that is, processed in certain way with another
will give a result opposite of negative, from one's point of view

I mean, math doesn't tell the earth to go around the sun
but the earth does it anyway, math and physics, simply uses notations to represent THAT that is already there

if tomorrow the Sun starts changing colors, from orange to blue and so on, because of something, then math and physics will record that, and if it becomes a pattern, then there'll be a notation for that

something like Sun color today = (earth days)/(lunar diameter) * (saturn rings)^3
or such

but math is just notations, of found pattern in phenomena
it doesn't dictate nature what to do, it simply records what nature does :)
