How did the Miller-Urey experiment impact the way scientists think about the origins of life?

They put a lot of simple inorganic molecules that are obviously not alive and not produced by organic systems - like methane gas - which were present in the earth's early stages. They zapped it with a lot of electricity and energy, also thought to be present in abundance in earth's early stages. They got out more complex molecules that are present in basic biologic systems.
