Which line is a linear model for the data? A. B. C. D.
which line do you think is a linear model for those points?
B?
well, what about C and D, why not one of them?
Idk this is confusing
I am not saying it is, I am just trying to get you to explain your thinking.
Oh well my thinking is not working today haha
fair enough 😀 would you say the line in C and D represents a trend where the data values increase as you move to the right on the x-axis?
say yes 😀 if you agree that those lines have positive slope, do you also agree that the data tends to be going lower as you move to the right?
No it's decreasing.
which is decreasing, the line or the data or both?
The data
how about the line?
we want a line that follows the trend of the data. the lines in C and D are increasing, while the data trend is decreasing. therefore, C and D are not good linear models. but how to choose between A and B? both the data and the lines are increasing there.
It's increasing
could you tell a complete idiot with no imagination how to decide which line better matches the data between A and B?
a line that follows the trend and goes along a path where about as much of the data is above the line as is below the line would be a pretty good model, don't you think?
Sorry I had to help my mom with groceries, but I'm back.
ok, no problem....so, do you have an opinion on A vs B? do you agree with my suggestion?
