OpenStudy (gabby2117):

Emergancy!

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

I fell on my stomach at gymnastics last Thursday. Well my side hurt really bad but I went to class yesterday anyway. I fell of the balance beam and hit my ribs really hard and now I can not move my torso, breathe deeply, cough, laugh, or anything like that. I don't think that I broke a rib, but what could make it hurt so bad.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

@MedicalDoctor

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

@imqwerty

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

@MissSmartiez

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Hmm, it may be that you hit it bad that you might be winded.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

But I am no doctor, (it may be sore for a while, you just hit it...).

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

I suggest talking to your parents and or trusted doctor to see if you damaged anything.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

Is there a way to like bruise your ribs.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

break and or crack yes.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

But if you broke your rib it can: puncture your lungs. Be deformed, not good

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Tell your parents. TELL THE doctor. because I can't give you a physical check up...

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

O.K. Thanks.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

If I haven't covered anything sweetie, check the link to see if you met any suptoms, but don't panic because it hurts. BECAUSE, it is suppose to hurt...

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

Dad is a nurse. I'll have him look at it when he gets home.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Smart choice

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

I do have a HUGE bruise where I hit it.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

Good thing that we have lots of pain reliever.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Don't take it without subscription.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

Iboprophen.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Or permission, if you don't it might be considered to be a drug.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

2 every 4-5 hours is what mom says

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

No matter what the medicine, try to cease and see if the pain will go away a bit, if it doesn't THEN think about taking it. how old are you?

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

13

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Don't take it if your mother doesn't allow or doctor.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

DON'T. I repeat do not, it can harm you more than an injured rib XD

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Alright read the other 2 links for questions.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

Daddy is the one who tells me when to take it. I just txted him.

OpenStudy (gabby2117):

I also have an ice pack (aka bag of frozen walnuts).

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

You can certainly break a rib in gymnastics, although I've never broken a rib, I've fractured thumb, fractured foot, fractured elbow, sprained elbow, and sprained ankles in gym. More than likely, it's probably bruised, I've taken some hard falls in gym. Ice it, take ibuprofen/aleve/advil if needed, and try to rest as much as possible :)

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Like others before me have said it is almost impossible to diagnose without x-ray and a physical exam. However if you think that there is a chance of it being broken certainly don't wait to long as many patients do. Make sure to ask a doctor. Even if it is believed not to be broken or fractured it might be a good idea to have an x-ray just in case.
