Will medal and fan! Thank you♥ 1. which number is an irrational number: a. 0.12 b. 0.1257486... c. 0.12121212... d. 0.111111

OpenStudy (igreen):

Irrational numbers can't be written as simple fractions.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Rational numbers are regular decimals, repeating decimals, etc. Because they can all be written as simple fractions.

OpenStudy (igreen):

So what do you think?

OpenStudy (jlowrey03):

c can i get a medal now

OpenStudy (jlowrey03):

An Irrational Number is a real number that cannot be written as a simple fraction. Irrational means not Rational Examples: Rational Numbers OK. A Rational Number can be written as a Ratio of two integers (ie a simple fraction). Example: 1.5 is rational, because it can be written as the ratio 3/2 Example: 7 is rational, because it can be written as the ratio 7/1 Example 0.333... (3 repeating) is also rational, because it can be written as the ratio 1/3 Irrational Numbers But some numbers cannot be written as a ratio of two integers ... ...they are called Irrational Numbers. It is irrational because it cannot be written as a ratio (or fraction), not because it is crazy! Example: π (Pi) is a famous irrational number. Pi π = 3.1415926535897932384626433832795 (and more...) You cannot write down a simple fraction that equals Pi. The popular approximation of 22/7 = 3.1428571428571... is close but not accurate. Another clue is that the decimal goes on forever without repeating.

got it

Thank you!

OpenStudy (jlowrey03):

np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the answer I did this yesterday the real answer is: B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you daisyrainbowmist♥ I'm already you fan!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol no problem I will fan you also

OpenStudy (igreen):

@jlowrey03 @daisyrainbowmist Don't give answers.

OpenStudy (igreen):

A is a rational number because it's a regular decimal. B is not a rational number because it's a continuous decimal that doesn't repeat. C is a rational number because it's a repeating decimal. D is a rational number because it's a repeating decimal.
