A third grade class had a spelling bee with 6-letter and 7-letter words. They used 40 words that had a total of 250 letters. Which system of linear equations represents the problem? Select one: A. X plus seven y equals two hundred fifty. Six x plus y equals forty. B. Seven x plus six y equals two hundred ten. x plus y equals forty. C. Six x plus seven y equals forty. X plus y equals two hundred fifty. D. Seven x plus six y equals two hundred fifty. x plus y equals forty.

OpenStudy (nolangold):

@AnitaS. thanks

OpenStudy (nolangold):

hello?

OpenStudy (kamibug):

7x + 6x = 250 x + y = 40

OpenStudy (nolangold):

Hay thanks

OpenStudy (nolangold):

u help with a few more

OpenStudy (anitas.):

oh sorry i'm too late.

OpenStudy (nolangold):

Eh no prob

OpenStudy (nolangold):

A hotel lobby can seat 14 people at chairs and loveseats. The lobby has a total of 11 pieces of furniture for seating. Assuming a chair seats 1 person and a loveseat seats 2, how many loveseats are in the lobby?

OpenStudy (nolangold):

2 B. 3 C. 4 D. 5

OpenStudy (nolangold):

11 is not an answer :)

OpenStudy (nolangold):

i thaught it would be 5

OpenStudy (nolangold):

hello

OpenStudy (nolangold):

@Serenity74

OpenStudy (nolangold):

The question is above it is 5 right?

OpenStudy (nolangold):

@Serenity74

OpenStudy (nolangold):

hey

OpenStudy (nolangold):

Ohhhhhhhhhh

OpenStudy (nolangold):

Which of the following ordered pairs is a solution to the system of linear equations below? Four x plus y equals nineteen. Three x minus y equals nine. Select one: A. One and three sevenths, ten and three sevenths. B. Ten, negative twenty-one. C. (2, 11) D. (4, 3)

OpenStudy (nolangold):

Am i right?

OpenStudy (kamibug):

4x + y = 19 3x - y = 9 ~~~~~~~~~~ First let's isolate y in the first equation. y = 19 - 4x Now plug in that value for y in the 2nd equation 3x - (19-4x) = 9 Simplify 3x + 4x - 19 = 9 7x = 28 Solve for x x = 4 ~~~~~~~~~~ Now take this value of x and plug it into either of the equations to find y.

OpenStudy (kamibug):

You mean about the previous question?

OpenStudy (nolangold):

Yes the first one

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Let me check

OpenStudy (nolangold):

Oh duh u said i am

OpenStudy (kamibug):

I don't remember saying that Lol. It's actually 3 because 3 love seats = 6 people and since we have 11 pieces of furniture there's 8 more chairs (3+8=11) and 8 chairs = 8 people 6 + 8 = 14 :)
