OpenStudy (tacotime):

In the figure, a proton is projected horizontally midway between two parallel plates that are separated by 0.2 cm. The electrical field due to the plates has magnitude 4.5×105 N/C between the plates away from the edges. If the plates are 5.2 cm long, find the minimum speed of the proton if it just misses the lower plate as it emerges from the field.

OpenStudy (tacotime):

The figure just shows the two plates and an efield moving downward.

OpenStudy (shamim):

Figure plz !

OpenStudy (shamim):

U know F=qE=?

OpenStudy (shamim):

Use F=ma

OpenStudy (shamim):

a=?

OpenStudy (shamim):

Use v=u+at

OpenStudy (shamim):

v=?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

It is a case of parabolic motion under a constant force.

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Ok so I've found that the acceleration is 4.3*10^13 but I'm not sure what to do with this information. How does the e-field affect the path and do I have to take into account gravity?

OpenStudy (tacotime):

heres the figure: https://session.masteringphysics.com/problemAsset/1542818/1/p17.42.jpg

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

No you don't have to take account gravity. You just have to consider the vertical acceleration and vertical velocity
