The development of an atomic bomb by the Soviets in 1949 did all of the following except pave the way for a nuclear arms race between the U.S. and Soviet Union. increased psychological tensions in the U.S. and Soviet Union. led to the authorization of the development of a hydrogen bomb in the U.S. led to a treaty that limited the number of nuclear weapons in the U.S. and Soviet Union.

This is a trick question since there is no correct answer for this question. When the Soviet Union developed their atomic bomb the US started to stockpile weapons and the Soviet Union did as well (arms race). Also many people were in constant fear of a hot war showing psychological tensions. Third the US did soon after develop a hydrogen bomb to show the Soviet Union Americas power. Finally the two did come to a treaty limiting nuclear activities in the 1980s. If I had to select an answer the best one would have to be D. @yese30
