you have the angle, you have the adjacent side. you need the opposite side. which trigonometric ratio has adjacent side and opposite side in its formula? sin or cos or tan ?

x= 35 tan 47 = 37.53.
I'm still confused. I type in tan 47 and it comes out as -0.124 and then when I type in 35 tan 47 it comes out as -4.358

Your calculator is in radian mode instead of degree mode it is interpreting the 47 as being in radians (equivalent to 2692.9 degrees) You should change to *degree mode*
