OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Do you have any ideas?

OpenStudy (faolan):

i dont know what to do.......so no

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Start on the left side

OpenStudy (faolan):

distributive?

OpenStudy (faolan):

2a-4

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

And now go to the other side what can you do so only the top is left?

OpenStudy (faolan):

idk....divide?

OpenStudy (faolan):

im kinda a retard whenit comes to math.srry

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Don't say that

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

You can multiply to the bottom of that side and multiple that same number to the other

OpenStudy (faolan):

the a-4?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Multiple thAt to both sides so you will have?

OpenStudy (faolan):

2a-16?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

No, it would be (a-4)(2a-4)

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Foil

OpenStudy (faolan):

i dont multiply them together?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

You do it just because they both have more than 1 term

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Now you multiple (a-4)(2a-4) firsts outside insides lasts

OpenStudy (faolan):

I dont get it........

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

What don't you get?

OpenStudy (faolan):

what wuld i muliply together?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Okay so you have a-4 multiplied to the left side the reason why this works and only a-1 is left is because when you divide them you get 1 now multiple a-4 to the other side, so you will multiply (a-4)(2a-4)

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

So now you have to FOIL

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

First 2a*a+-4*a+-4*2a+-4(-4)

OpenStudy (faolan):

soooooo............ 2a^2 + (-4a) +(-8a) + 16?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes now you can...?

OpenStudy (faolan):

add like terms?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes

OpenStudy (faolan):

2a^2 + (-12) +16?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Where's the a?

OpenStudy (faolan):

oh yes -12a

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Now?

OpenStudy (faolan):

ummmmm....idk a-1/2a^2 + (-12a) +16?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Get one side equal to 0

OpenStudy (faolan):

how?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

What do you have right now

OpenStudy (faolan):

2a^2 + (-12a) +16

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

And the other side

OpenStudy (faolan):

a-1

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

WhAt about the -?

OpenStudy (faolan):

ohh yeaaa i forgot. ita -a-1

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Close

OpenStudy (faolan):

-(a-1)

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes do distribute the - through

OpenStudy (faolan):

so -a-(-1)

OpenStudy (faolan):

?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes -a+1 now move that to the other side

OpenStudy (faolan):

2a^2 + (-12a) +16 + a+1?

OpenStudy (faolan):

2a^2 + (-12a) +16 -a+1

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Close -1 not plus 1

OpenStudy (faolan):

oh

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Wait

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

-a+1 do opposit to get rid of it so add a and subract 1 2a^2-12a+16+a-1

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Make sence?

OpenStudy (faolan):

we wanna get rid of it so we do opposite. yup

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Good now add like terms

OpenStudy (faolan):

ummmm 12a^2 + (-11a) +15?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

I think I confused you we still just have 2a^2 but otherwise yes so 2a^2-11a+15=0 because you got rid of everything on that side

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Do you have a graphing calculators?

OpenStudy (faolan):

nope.......

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Okay that's already you'll have to use the quadratic formula than

OpenStudy (faolan):

ok

OpenStudy (faolan):

what is that?lol

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Do you know what the quadratic formula is?

OpenStudy (faolan):

no

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

here come to this website hopefully this will work it will be easier to show than

OpenStudy (kayders1997):
