An appositive is a noun or noun phrase that renames another noun right beside it. Here's an example: During the dinner conversation, Clifford, the messiest eater at the table, spewed mashed potatoes like an erupting volcano. So here the appositive is probably the description of the Nile, if i'm not mistaken. Hope this helps
