one easy way to check is to replace every letter "r" with the number 1. Then solve them both and see if the answer is different. You follow what im saying?

No, that's not right. You could take TheSeabass' advice, but I think you'd be better off if you'd multiply out both sides of this equation. Simplify the quantities inside parentheses first.
