I don't understand what they are asking us. Can someone please help? In what ways do the authors' different purposes and perspectives influence their presentation of details and ideas?

I'm going to answer this one. Since writing is usually based on opinion, or personal experience, authors reflect their purposes in their writing, giving the reader a perspective on things from the way the author sees it. For example, lets say a car accident happens. The police on the scene are questioning any witnesses who had seen the accident. Well, lets say there are 2 witnesses. Both witnesses may have similar stories but will not have the same details, depending on what they focused on, and how they felt. So, although the story outline may be the same or similar, the details will be different.
