Is this statement 8x+11=27a equation or expression or both or neither?

@jim_thompson5910 @RhondaSommer

OpenStudy (baconboy73):

An expression is an ordinary math phrase that has numbers (1,2,etc), variables (x,y,etc), and operators (+,-,*,/,etc). An equation is showing that two math expressions are equal to each other. Every equation has an equals sign (=). Does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be a equation?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

technically... but the x and a is wierd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be both?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

both

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

its an equatio but its an expression because you cant solve it...

OpenStudy (rational):

I think it is only an equation

OpenStudy (baconboy73):

It is both. This is two expressions and one equation. The 2 expressions are: \[8x+11\] and \[27a\] The equation is: \[8x+11=27a\]
