The Peytons' car averaged 66 miles per hour on their trip. The trip took 90 minutes. How far did they travel? A. 90 mi B. 99 mi C. 156 mi D. 5940 mi

OpenStudy (jeff666):

Its D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you find that?

OpenStudy (jeff666):

just distance = speed x time so the answer would be..

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Be careful with the units. 90 minutes is an hour-and-a-half. If you go 66 mph for an hour-and-a-half, you will definitely not travel 5940 miles.

OpenStudy (jeff666):

you would most definitely and if not d then B

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@Jeff666 Your formula is correct, but since mph means miles per HOUR, you need the time in hours, too. What is 90 minutes in hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one hour and half

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Good. Now use the formula with 1.5 hour

OpenStudy (jeff666):

ohh ok then it would be 99

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you would do 90 x 66?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

distance = speed * time speed = 66 mph time = 1.5 hours distance = 66 mph * 1.5 hours What is 66 * 1.5 ?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You convert 90 minutes to 1.5 hours and multiply 1.5 by 66.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, it is 99

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct. 99 miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks @mathstudent55

You're welcome.
