In order for the lac operon genes to be turned on and for transcription of the genes to take place, what must happen?

The repressor protein binds to the DNA molecule, and RNA polymerase falls off. The repressor protein falls of the DNA molecule, and RNA polymerase binds to the promotor. Lactose is removed from the system.

I don't know this stuff. I know lactase is the catalyst that breaks down lactose, but that's the best I've got for this question. Sorry
