A circular plate has a dinameter of 9 inches. What is the area of the plate?

OpenStudy (phi):

do you know the formula for the area of a circle ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (phi):

Do you have notes or a book? or google?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A=πr2

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, but it is better to write it A= πr^2 (the ^ shows the 2 is a power) it means r*r so do use this formula you need to know pi. it is (roughly) 3.14 or 22/7 any idea what r is ? i.e. what is the radius of your circle ?

OpenStudy (phi):

diameter is 9 diameter is all the way across the radius is ½ of that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

81in

OpenStudy (phi):

you want to find the radius. the radius is ½ of 9 or 9 divided by 2 that is 9/2 or 4.5 if you write it as a decimal now do (22/7) * (9/2) * (9/2) or do 3.14*4.5*4.5
