please someone help me, i'll love you forever!!!:")
A flock of migrating birds is blown off course by a storm and carried towards a small island that has no birds. Only three of the birds survive the storm and make it to the island. They start to reproduce and, after several years, there are 500 birds on the island. Does the genetic variation in this population of birds result from a population bottleneck or the founder effect? Explain
i think it's the founder effect but i can't express in words X(
h that is the founder effect.
can you help me why tho?
yeah that's what I am thinking .. hold on
yah cuz both can be applied to the given scenario.... LOL
okai so Bottleneck Effect occurs when there is a disaster of some sort that reduces a population to a smaller value which doesn't represent the actual genetic makeup of the initial population. This leaves smaller variation among the surviving individuals right?
But founder effect is the loss of genetic variation that occurs when a new population is established by a very small number of individuals from a larger population.
yes but same goes for the founder effect as well.... there is a limited genetic variation which leads to high chances of passing on genes that can trigger new diseases to spread.
SO here these 3 survived birds are new to that place, and they will act as the founders of the species population there.
yes but wouldn't they have limited genetic variation????
They do both do because the population reduces leaving it to have less genetic variation its just that i didn't mention it there.
so? LOL :"P
Bottle neck effect has reducing effect on the population at the same location like and founder effect has a reducing property but it is in a new location where the species which were reduced aren't present.Did u get the difference now ?
kinda....thanks HUN!!
No problem bubs......... Wait if u want more I think I do have an article about it... I'll attach it here
would really appreciate !!!!!
Thank you dear!!!
You have some examples there I hope you get it though......
can you help me with another question please?!?!?!!?
Welcome :)
yeah but open up a new question maybe ?
okey!
