OpenStudy (gottennis121):

When they ask about lateral area, what do they mean? I know surface area etc. but never heard of this one.

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

@agent0smith

OpenStudy (dogzcatz):

A lateral surface of a geometric solid is the face the sides.

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

So what am I measuring?

OpenStudy (dogzcatz):

The area of the sides

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

Just the sides and that's it?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

"lateral area" means, at least, the area of the sides, not including the area or areas of the ends. For example, open a can of soup at both ends, discard the top and bottom, and find the area of the sides only.

OpenStudy (dogzcatz):

@mathmale better answer way better

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Or consider the outside area of a house. Ignore the roof and floor areas.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Thanks, DzCz.

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

In this case, they give me height, 26, width 6, and length of 15 as a rectangular prism . So I would do 26 x 15 = 390. Then 390 x 2 since there are two sides at the same measurements. After do 26 x 6 = 156. Then multiple 156 x 2. Add the answer of 390 x 2 and 156 x 2. Am I correct?

|dw:1455994432601:dw|AHHH yes you did it correctly. Lol, I misread your thing the first time :)
